Apparently there’s a town called Brazil in the US state of Indiana. Jimmy Hoffa was born there.
I wonder if they speak Portuguese?

This is how I’ve been feeling since this rain has started in Salvador. When you think of Brazil you just think of the beautiful sunny paradise, never of the winter rains. I guess it makes sense, we got to Brazil with it raining and we’re leaving with the rain.

At the first signs of someone’s stress, a Brazilian often says Fique tranquilo (Don’t worry). It has a very calming effect.

Things to see and do in Brazil: Wander the cobblestone streets of Paraty
Charming town that was once a major port for the export of gold. This wealth is reflected in the beautiful colonial buildings, such as Santa Rita Church, built by freed slaves.
If you ever have the chance to go to Paraty do it! I was sadly only there for 2 nights but it was amazing, the quaint little town, the lovely people, the delicious food, the beautiful scenery…Sadly the Salvador program does not take us there, but the São Paulo program goes for a weekend. I’m glad I got to go!

Reality:
Not even just cobblestone, but crappy sidewalks too >_< not fun. How do Brazilians master this art?

My boyfriend is coming to visit me a 2nd time! I’m on my way to pick him up from the airport right now :) I can’t wait to spend this whole week with him in Brazil and for him to meet my host family, everyone is so excited to see him, me most of all <3

So a few weeks ago I was in Rio de Janeiro. When you think of Rio, what comes to mind? Christ the Redeemer!!
Ever since I decided to study abroad in Brazil I made it my goal to go to Rio, a cidade maravilhosa! Lucky for me I didn’t have to do much planning as CIEE planned a weekend trip for us all expensive paid (well almost all). I mean technically it’s part of our program fee…but the São Paulo group didn’t go to Rio so I felt pretty happy I chose the Salvador program :)
We left on a Friday and arrived in the afternoon. That night we all went out to lapa, but I’ll show more pictures of that later :) Saturday we got a guided tour to Christ the Redeemer which was great! That meant we didn’t have to wait in super long lines or pay for transportation.
To tell you the truth I expected Christ the Redeemer to be a lot bigger than it was, but then again I felt the same way about the Mona Lisa painting. It is big though don’t get me wrong and it has a great view of the city! We were very lucky that it turned out to be such a beautiful day!
If you ever get the chance make sure you go there at least one time in your life! It’s worth it :)
Quick Facts
Even though I’m in Salvador, I can’t lie I really did love São Paulo :)
